Inside the Barrell!

Inside the Barrell!

Week 4 of Learning 2.0 looks at RSS feeds.

What do you like about RSS and newsreaders? I found Bloglines very difficult to follow and unpleasant to deal with. However things were looking easier after about five tries so it was good the exercise got me to go that far.

What sites did you select for your RSS reader?
Blog of a Bookslut (1) (0)Dictionary.com Word of the Day (0) (0)Genealogy Librarian News (0) (0)Librarians' Internet Index: New This Week (0) (0)Powerhouse Museum - Photo of the Day (0) (0)The Shifted Librarian (0) (0)

How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your work? I think I hate Blogs and Newsfeeds. Who needs stuff getting fed at you. I say go looking when you need stuff and you're interested. Flicking through a paper is a luxury these day. Blogs that were genuine digests would be good to find, but mostly they increase rather than decrease info overload.

How can libraries use RSS or take advantage of this new technology? If they can get users to subscribe to feeds they can be good ways to keep them informed on 'what's on'. Special libraries could provide digests of useful info for their clients but it's harder for public libraries with broad and unpredictable clientele.

Did you find any good examples of other library blogs? One user's meat is another user's poison so goodness is really about relevance - relevance arises in an interactive relationship with feedback to finetune requirements -
